"Winnie the Pooh” A Brand New Movie from Disney Animation
Tuesday, 15 March 2011
Walt Disney Animation Studios is currently putting the finishing touches to a brand new animated movie starring one of Britain's most loved characters, Winnie the Pooh. In a drastic step away from modern film making, "Winnie the Pooh" has been created using only hand-drawn 2D animation to keep as close as possible to the traditional look and feel of the original Winnie the Pooh cartoons. The movie is narrated, as per the original, by none other than Britain's John Clease, in a nod towards the British-ness of stories. The characters also interact with the pages and words of the book, sometime with disastrous results!
Winnie the Pooh was originally seen on the big screen in 1977 in "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh". Presented as a series of short films, although it had originally been the intention of Walt Disney to produce one full length feature film, Pooh's first movie was the last film Walt Disney was personally involved in. "The Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh" was an instant success and catapulted Pooh to international stardom. It still holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%, not bad for a bear whose main focus is where his next meal of hunny is coming from!
Winnie the Pooh went on to star in Disney's animated TV series "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" which aired a total of 83 episodes between 1988-1991, with re-runs airing into 2007. Due to the popularity of the Pooh and his friends, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Roo and of course Christopher Robin, Disney released three Pooh spin-off movies "The Tigger Movie" (2000) "Piglet's Big Movie" (2003) and "Pooh's Heffalump Movie" (2005) all of which were great successes. Winnie the Pooh DVDs of the animate TV series and the subsequent movies still have great sales even today.
But despite the global success of the Winnie the Pooh franchise, Pooh has not starred in his own movie since that original 1977 film. The new "Winnie the Pooh" (2011) gives Pooh he chance to shine again!
Based on three short stories, "In Which Christopher Robin Leads an Expedition to the North Pole", "In Which Eeyore Loses a Tail" and "In Which Rabbit Has a Busy Day," for the first time the storyline of "Winnie the Pooh" will actually be combined into one movie. Throughout the film Eeyore manages to lose his tail, again, Tigger bounces and bounces and bounces around the 100 acre wood, Pooh has an ever so rumbly tumbly and little Piglet has to be v-v-very b-b-brave!
The release of the new Winnie the Pooh movie is hotly anticipated by Pooh fans and Disney's loyalty to the original concept of Pooh is sure to bring more than a few smiles and a couple of tears from cinema-goers. Released during the Easter School holidays, Winnie the Pooh is the perfect family day out for grandchildren and grandparents alike!
"Winnie the Pooh" is released in UK cinemas on 15th April 2011.
