BELFAST Lord Mayor Councillor Naomi Long has paid tribute to a young man from Ballyclare who has set the wheels in motion to raise money for charity.
David Warwick, 23, cycled from Ballyclare Town Hall to Belfast City Hall last Wednesday (20th Jan) to help raise funds for a hospital in Africa.
The Christian Blind Mission helps to fund operations for blind and disabled people in Tanzania and to date, David has raised more than £10,000 for the cause - which is very close to his heart.
David said: "My dad is registered blind and about two years ago I decided to try to increase awareness about the Christian Blind Mission charity, and to raise funds by running and cycling. I suppose it's just my way of giving something back." Belfast Lord Mayor Councillor Naomi Long said: "It's a real privilege to welcome David to City Hall today and hear about how he's raising awareness about this charity. It's very encouraging to see others who are, quite literally, willing to go that extra mile to help others.
“The recent devastating events in Haiti have reminded us of the importance of that charitable spirit, and I think people in Northern Ireland are very generous when it comes to responding to humanitarian aid issues and problems associated with living in challenging conditions.
“I wish David every success in his efforts to raise money for this very worthwhile cause."
