‘Hopefully brighter 2012'
The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Billy Webb, has welcomed in the New Year wishing everyone a "peaceful New Year".
He said: "We can all now look forward to longer, and hopefully brighter, days as 2012 begins.
“At the beginning of my year I said I would work across communities wherever I was needed, that I would encourage and acknowledge volunteering and that I would engage with local small businesses; I hope I have been able to make a difference in these areas.
“I have met many inspirational people and some, who face the most adversity, are often the most selfless and generous, carrying out voluntary work for others, or working quietly in the background for charities.
“I am very grateful to everyone who attended events for, assisted at or donated to my chosen charities this year, The Hospice, Gis a Hug Foundation and Medecins Sans Frontieres.
The past year has presented many challenges to us all and I would like to thank everyone across the Borough who made the first half of my Mayoral year so memorable and enjoyable.
“I would particularly like to thank my wife, the Deputy Mayor, my entire fellow Councillors and the Council staff for their support since my election as Mayor."
