BALLYCLARE ASDA is to provide a home shopping delivery service for the town and surrounding area.
The new service will be officially launched on 14th October and will mean those in rural areas nearby can order their shopping online.
ASDA manager George Rankin said the service is going to benefit many people in the area, he said: "We're all very excited to offer this service to Ballyclare, it is going to be great for rural areas.
“Ballyclare ASDA is the only the second store in Northern Ireland to have this facility, we are really pleased that the area will have this service. We know there are a number of customers who would like to purchase from the store but can't always make it, the online service will mean these customers can get their weekly shopping from the comfort of their own home."
At least 15 to 40 jobs will be created as part of the introduction of this scheme. The service enables shoppers who purchase from the ASDA Ballyclare store to order their weekly shopping, Gary added: "If someone buys a number of items then all they need to do is type the number at the bottom of a receipt they picked up in store and enter it onto the website. That will order the same items making shopping easier for Ballyclare customers."
Councillor Vera McWilliams welcomed the new service. " It's a service that will be warmly received in the area, it will benefit those who find it difficult to travel or are isolated. I wish it every success."
The announcement was made by ASDA Chief executive, Andy Boyd, when he visited Ballyclare ASDA last week. Andy made Ballyclare his first stop on a trip to Northern Ireland and he was impressed with the town's store, he said: "The move to this bigger store offers the public more of what they want. It is important that a town like Ballyclare has more than one supermarket, having competition in the area is healthy and is good for the public."
Reflecting on the visit, Dr. McCrea MP MLA commented: "It is always very encouraging to find someone as busy and as influential as Andy Bond, taking time out from his daily commitments to spend time with employees and to engage with the local community. I have no doubt that during his visit he received a resounding endorsement from customers as the Ballyclare store, since its opening, has proven to be one of ASDA's most successful outlets in the whole of Northern Ireland.
“The Chief Executive's announcement that 40 new jobs are to be created through the launch of the home shopping scheme, is proof of ASDA's on-going commitment to the town, and hopefully this new provision will enable even more customers to benefit from the excellent service that has already been warmly embraced by the local community."
