BALLYCLARE'S town Centre roads set for massive improvement after huge grant confirmed.
It has been confirmed the road service are set to begin work on the town's roads at a cost of £438,000. The money has been achieved through joint funding from the Department of Regional development, Department of Social Development and the Council.
Speaking to the Gazette, MP MLA Dr William McCrea said how vital this investment is for the regeneration of Ballyclare, he said: "There is a vision for regeneration of the town centre and the first step in this vision is the improvement of the town's roads."
“What is incredibly important is that while the work is carried out traders in the town must not be disturbed, especially during the Christmas period. It is vital that we work with the traders to achieve the best possible result for the town.
“Ballyclare has fallen behind, While thankfully the town was not bombed during the troubles, towns that where bombed got a lot of regeneration work carried out."
The redevelopment programme includes the large planters that surround the Square car park being replaced by bollards, as well as the roads being resurfaced. Dr McCrea added: "Our town has been somewhat left behind and now with this funding secured, steps to bring the town up to date have begun."
Fellow DUP member, Paul Girven said there was concern that the funding was not going to be available, he said: "For a time it looked like it wouldn't be going through until Dr McCrea's intervention."
