British Ladies Golf Championship at Hilton Golf Club
Wednesday, 10 September 2008
THE HILTON Hotel (Templepatrick) Golf Club will be the venue for another top Ladies tournament in a fortnights time. The 2008 Senior Ladies British open Amateur Championship is to be played there from Tuesday 16th - Thursday 18th September.
No doubt the players, officials and spectators will be hoping for better weather than at last year's Ladies European Professional event played at the Hilton when heavy rain caused problems.
For the Senior British Amateur tournament there will be 3 rounds of stroke play with a cut made after 36 holes and the top 40 will play on the final day (Thursday).
The entry of 80 ladies is fairly international with 22 from England, 10 from Canada - including Alison Murdoch a 1 handicapper; 11 from Sweden, 2 from U.S.A. who have the 0 handicapper Deborah Jamgocian, 11 from Scotland, 4 from Germany, and the top U.K. Senior Lady golfer Vicki Thomas from Wales.
There is a strong entry from Ireland of 15 ladies. They include Roma English from Larne, Helen Jones (Strabane) and Sheena O'Brien-Kenny, also playing will be the captain of this year's Curtis Cup team, Mary McKenna.
The prize distribution will be held in the Hilton Hotel on Thursday 18th.
This is a rare opportunity for golfers and other from the East Antrim area to see a host of top amateur lady golfers playing the challenging Hilton course at Templepatrick over the three days.
