TEAMS from all over Northern Ireland came together to bask in warm late summer sunshine to join Newtownabbey Bowling club and Newtownabbey Borough Council in their 50th Anniversary celebrations at Hazelbank Park on Saturday 20th September.
With the green in immaculate condition and the surrounding grounds looking fantastic, play got under way. In a keenly fought contest the standard of crown green bowls was exceptional as Balmoral and Whitehead narrowly reached the final.
With shadows starting to lengthen, the final was surprisingly a one sided affair with Balmoral emerging victorious by a score of 7points to 3.
In all, a fantastic day was had by everyone involved. With over 120 people supporting and playing, Newtownabbey Bowling club are starting their next 50 years in some style.
Dean Holmes, Sport and Play Development Officer said: "It was certainly a fantastic event and a great day and both Newtownabbey Bowling Club and Newtownabbey Borough Council celebrated their 50th anniversaries in style!"
In addition to the bowls, the club had a raffle which successfully raised £300 for local charities.
