Ballyclare High girls aim for cup progress

FOR several of the hockey teams at Ballyclare High School the next couple of weeks will bring a series of key matches in the leading Ulster Schools Cup competitions.
The School 1st XI who remain unbeaten all season have managed again to reach the quarter finals of the Senior Schools Cup and will play their match on Saturday 21st January.The opposition will be the winners of the Carrick Grammar v Wallace High game which was to be played on Saturday past.
The draw means that Ballyclare will have to travel to the opponents but hopefully will be able to make it to the semi finals. In the McDowell Cup the High School 2nd XI are also through to the quarter finals and are due to travel to Bangor this Saturday to play Glenlola Collegiate. In the Thirds Cup Ballyclare 2B XI have done well to reach the quarter finals and have been drawn against Friends School, Lisburn on a date to de decided.
One of the most difficult draws faces the High School Under 14 XI who have progressed in the Ulster School Junior Cup and are down to play a strong Lurgan College side at home by 14th January ie this week. Details of these important matches will appear in the Gazette.
Ballyclare crush Antrim Grammar
On Saturday the girls hockey teams of Ballyclare High School must have created a new record in the matches against Antrim Grammar School. Not only did the High School 1st XI, unbeaten this season, defeat their Antrim counterparts by a massive 12-0 but overall the Ballyclare teams managed to score 26 goals and conceded none.
1st XI win 12-0
In the first half an early goal by Rebecca Quinn was followed by another for Amy Cooke from a short corner. Before the interval the Clare girls had added further goals from Amy Jones (2) and Rebecca Quinn to go 5-0 up. The trend continued in the second half with goals for Tori wallace, Lauren Curley and Rebecca Quinn. Double figures were reached with scores from Tori Wallace and Zoe Wilson and near the end Amy Jones and Rebecca Quinn took the score to 12-0-hopefully this form can continue in the Schools Cup quarter final.
2nd XI win 6-0
The 2A team warmed up for their McDowell Cup quarter final with a strong performance.Their player of the match was Julie Cooke and the goals were scored by Megan Quinn (2) and 2 for Victoria in the first half. In the second half there were further goals from Megan Quinn and Kate Cummings. A late injury caused this game to be halted early.
Elsewhere, the 2B XI won 2-0 - In this win the goals were netted by Joanna McAteer and Lucinda McAuley, the Under 14 A team won 2-0 with goals scored by the player of the match Lydia Mills while Ballyclare Under 13 A side won 4-0 where the top player was Lois Craig and the goal scorers were Jasmine Walker and Lucy Robinson.
