Mixed results for Ballyclare Ladies thumbnailCaptain Miriam with ball sponsor Tracy Gilpin HR Assessment & Development Consultant

LAST Saturday Ballyclare Ladies Hockey Club 1st XI suffered their first defeat in Senior I this season.
Still missing two key regulars, they travelled to play Ballymena who had been relegated last season.
The first half was fairly even but neither side created any clear-cut chances and it was still scoreless at half-time.
Ballymena did get stronger in the second half and got a goal from open play. Ballyclare then were awarded a penalty flick, but unfortunately Sarah Galbraith failed to score. Minutes later she also hit the post and later had a shot well saved. These were the best chances and Ballymena made the points secure with a late goal.
Their greater experience just about took them through 2-0. For Ballyclare Amy Cookeand Caroline Darragh did
well in mid-field while Danielle Hagan was strong at the back. Sarah Galbraith was the best of the forwards on the day.
Seconds win
Ballyclare Seconds, promoted to Junior I got their first league win on Saturday when they had a 2-0 home victory over North Down.
They pressed from the start and had two early short corners forcing good saves from the visitors goalkeeper.
From the next short corner Rebecca Mills netted the opening goal. Ballyclare attacked for much of the half but it was still 1-0 at the interval.
In the second half, North Down came forward and had several short corners which were well defended. Then on 25 minutes Nichola Kempton found Tori Wallace who slotted in the second goal. In fact these two were the best players for the Seconds. The match ball was kindly sponsored by William McFarland.
Other results
Ballyclare Ladies Thirds had a closely fought game at home to Harlequins V played at Foundry Lane. In poor conditions, they went down 1-0 with the goal from a short corner in the second half. They were well served by Dee Wallace playing at sweeper.
The Fourths did well to go to Dromore IV and get a 1-0 win. The vital goal was scored by Emma McDonald while Julie West and Julie Cooke helped keep the younger players concentrating throughout, they defended well and deserved the success.
