Carrick Ladies 3XI suffer narrow defeat against Lurgan
Wednesday, 5 November 2008
Jordan McKee was on the score sheet for Carrick Ladies at the weekend SA4545
CARRICK Ladies 3rds were away to Lurgan 4ths in the first round of their cup. Carrick realised early on that tight marking was going to be needed for this fast paced and very skilled Lurgan side.
Carrick's keeper Rebekah McKinley kept Carrick in the game pulling off some spectacular saves which even the Lurgan supporter's were applauding. The score line was 0-0 at half time and Captain Julie Wilson encouraged the girls to keep up the great work and that they would perhaps stand a chance to win the game.
Despite winning numerous penalty corners in the second half Carrick were unable to convert the chances much to their frustration. Lurgan themselves won penalty corner after penalty corner and the strong Carrick defence held tight throughout the game. Finally a goal came for Lurgan from a well struck penalty corner and the Carrick defence admitted it was an exceptional goal from the younger Lurgan player.
Determined to equalise the score line, Carrick fought back winning numerous penalty corners, and their frustration increased as the Lurgan defence kept breaking the line, forcing Carrick to take the penalty corners over and over again.
Carrick won a penalty corner in the final seconds of the game and the umpire blew the whistle to signal the end of the game, but having won the penalty corner prior the whistle, Carrick were allowed to play it. This was Carrick's final chance to push the game into extra time, but it wasn't meant to be as Carrick were unable to find the back of the net.
Final score Carrick Ladies 3XI 0-1 Lurgan 4XI
Defeat for Carrick Ladies 4XI
IT WAS going to be a difficult day for Carrick Ladies 4XI from the outset after Queen's 3rds took a very early 2 - 0 lead against Carrick.
Despite numerous attempts and very hard work from the mid-field, Carrick were unable to convert any of the play to goals and finished the first half four down.
However, after an inspiring half-time talk from team captain Kerrie Moore, Carrick came out a changed side and soon their hard work was rewarded with a superb goal from Julie Moore. The play was much more equal throughout the second half with Carrick being extremely unfortunate not to be able to increase their goal tally.
Queen's were only able to break through a strong Carrick defence one more time for Carrick to finish the game a disappointing 5-1 down.
Another great result for Carrick Ladies Under 12's
CARRICKFERGUS Ladies Under 12 hockey season continues with success at Lisnagarvey where the girls played Banbridge, Greenisland, Grosvenor and Cookstown.
Victory was sealed in four exciting matches with the Under 12 girls beating Banbridge 3-0, Greenisland 1-0 and Grosvenor 1-0. The Carrick side were unfortunate to walk away with a 0-0 draw against Cookstown. The girls displayed excellent teamwork and hockey skills throughout the days fixtures and fully deserved to walk away with these outstanding results. The young Carrick side have shown definite promise for the future and hopes to have another very successful Under 12 season ahead.
